Remember also that many pets are not going to immediately appreciate being put into a Halloween costume unless they are used to being dressed. Spend several days getting them used to the idea of wearing the costume before you take them out on Halloween in it. One way to do this is by showing them the costume, putting it on for a few minutes and then removing it. Afterward, give them a treat and praise them for good behavior. After several of these exercises, not only will your pet be happy to wear the costume, but he/she will also be looking forward to a treat afterward. Be certain to carry some extra treats with you that night – after all, they can’t have chocolate, and everyone deserves a special treat on Halloween.
